Job summary

Universal Health Services, Inc. is seeking a Financial Counselor to promote positive patient relationships by delivering accurate and timely financial information.

The role acts as the liaison between patients and their insurance, coordinating payments and supporting the Business Office across intake, discharge, and clinical teams. Responsibilities include assisting with Medicaid enrollment, arranging payment plans, and ensuring confidentiality.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
• Two years of related customer service experience in a healthcare environment preferred.
• Knowledge of accounts receivable collection techniques.
• Knowledge of patient financial transactions, Medicare, Medicaid, HMO’s and private health insurance contracts.
• Must be oriented and sensitive to patient needs and confidentiality of patients/employees.
• Advanced knowledge of Excel preferred.

Responsibilities

• Verify intake data, insurance eligibility, and benefit information; coordinate with families and third party sources.
• Assist patients with Medicaid enrollment, charity applications, and Financial Attestations; ensure required signatures before discharge.
• Perform upfront collection activities on expected inpatient out-of-pocket costs; set up installment plans per policy.
• Monitor Medicaid benefits postings and coordinate with UM Director for potential retro-authorization guidance.
• Analyze private self-pay accounts for netting and contract-based adjustments.
• Make collection calls on private/self-pay accounts and arrange installment plans as per policy.
• Provide back-up support for other business officer positions as needed.
