Job summary

Acadia Pharmaceuticals is seeking a Patient Educator to deliver disease state education for Parkinson’s Disease Psychosis (PDP) and to guide patients and caregivers in early engagement with ACADIA Connect.

The role involves coordinating with Patient Access Managers on coverage and affordability, sharing approved educational resources, and partnering with sales and neurology teams to expand patient education programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a healthcare field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience in pharma or patient education is favorable.
  • Knowledge of neurology/psychiatry or movement disorders is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver PDP education in pre-prescription and advocacy group settings.
  • Provide information on product efficacy, safety, and access via ACADIA Connect.
  • Distribute approved PDP materials and build trust with patients and caregivers.
  • Collaborate with Patient Access Managers on coverage, reimbursement, and affordability questions.
  • Coordinate referrals into ACADIA Connect and educate on treatment options.
  • Respond to patient/caregiver inquiries and support education programs.

Job description

Seeking talent near: Detroit, MI; Washington DC; Pittsburgh, PA; Columbus, OH

As a Patient Educator, you will provide compassionate, clear, actionable disease state education for Parkinson’s Disease Psychosis (PDP), including education on NUPLAZID. You will guide patients and caregivers during early engagement, help transition patients into ACADIA Connect and Patient Access Managers (PAMs), and support access to resources for coverage, affordability, and long-term adherence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver pre-prescription (pre-NBRx) PDP education via small group meetings and presentations to advocacy groups, community organizations, and professional societies.
  • Provide product efficacy, safety, and access information through ACADIA Connect to patients/caregivers enrolled in programs.
  • Offer approved educational resources to help patients talk with their doctor about PDP.
  • Distribute approved materials about PDP and potential treatment with NUPLAZID.
  • Build trusting relationships with patients and caregivers.
  • Collaborate with Patient Access Managers to address coverage, reimbursement, and affordability questions.
  • Facilitate referral/transition into ACADIA Connect.
  • Partner with Neurology and Long-Term Care Sales Specialists to ensure providers know about the Patient Educator resource.
  • Respond to inquiries from patients/caregivers, key customers, community organizations, and advocacy events.
  • Collaborate with community/advocative/professional groups to support education programs.
  • Provide feedback to the marketing team to improve patient engagement.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, social work, psychology, or related healthcare field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 3–5+ years in pharma; experience in patient education, patient navigation, advocacy, or patient support services preferred.
  • Knowledge of neurology/psychiatry/movement disorders preferred; Parkinson’s Disease or PDP strongly desired.
  • Empathetic, supportive relationship-building; excellent communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills.
  • Cross-functional collaboration experience (marketing, patient support, advocacy, field teams).
  • Familiarity with compliance standards for patient-facing pharmaceutical roles.
  • Ability to travel (driving, overnight stays; air travel as needed).
