Job description

Join to apply for the Patient Coordinator - Part Time role at Akumin.

The Patient Coordinator is responsible for performing various customer service and patient care tasks to ensure a positive patient experience. This includes documentation, patient records organization, and ensuring patients understand what to expect during and after their appointments.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Greeting and assisting patients, customers, and visitors in person and over the phone.
  2. Performing patient registration in various systems.
  3. Answering all phone calls professionally and courteously.
  4. Collecting payments for time-of-service patient responsibilities.
  5. Verifying insurance coverage and obtaining prior authorization.

Patient Assistance:

  1. Performing preliminary screening of patients, including medical history.
  2. Transporting patients to/from exam rooms.
  3. Assisting in patient transfer on/off exam tables.
  4. Providing preliminary and post-procedure instructions.

Work Area & Supply Preparation:

  1. Assisting in preparing mobile units for transport.
  2. Maintaining a clean and organized work area.
  3. Ordering supplies and ensuring proper stock levels.

Documentation:

  1. Ensuring accuracy of patient records.
  2. Scheduling patient appointments and verifying insurance.
  3. Preparing medical records for physicians and patients.
  4. Ensuring accurate documentation of patient visits in electronic systems and written documents.
  5. Assisting clinical staff with documentation and image delivery.
  6. Performing all duties within HIPAA regulations.

Position Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • CPR Certification for Mobile Radiology and Oncology; CPR a plus for Fixed Radiology.
  • Valid state driver’s license if applicable.
  • Ability to work at multiple locations.
  • Strong customer service, organizational, and multitasking skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Local travel may be required.
  • COVID-19 vaccination may be required.
  • Pre-employment background check and drug screening required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Six months of customer service experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

May involve exposure to weather, magnetic fields, radioactive materials, blood, body fluids, and environmental hazards. More than 50% of the time involves sitting, standing, walking, and repetitive movements. Less than 50% involves stooping, kneeling, climbing, and lifting patients.
