Job summary

Mount Sinai Health System is seeking an Offsite Patient Coordinator to greet patients, verify demographics and insurance, and schedule appointments. You will ensure insurance coverage for the physician seen and update patient information in the practice management system.

The role emphasizes communication with staff about arrivals, HIPAA compliance, and handling of PHI. On-site training will be provided, and prior medical office experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School graduate/GED.
• 1 year physician practice experience.
• Must have a minimum of one week training on-site which will be provided by practice.
• Prefer experience in a medical office setting, utilizing a computer system for physician scheduling.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients in person or via telephone and updates insurance/demographics in the practice management system.
• Verifies insurance and ensures coverage for physician.
• Communicates with staff regarding patient arrival and ensures medical records are available.
• Processes HIPAA-related paperwork and other institutional forms as necessary.
• Collects or retrieves referrals or insurance authorizations as required.
• Reviews waiting room status and keeps patients informed of wait times.
• Collects co-pays and provides receipts following cash-control processes.
• Schedules follow-up appointments and provides guidelines for medical records requests.
• May perform simple charge entry or enter payments collected from patients.
• Answers phones and schedules appointments.
• Follows HIPAA and state agency requirements for PHI handling.
• Initiates reminder calls for next-day appointments.
• Performs other related duties.
