Job summary

UPMC is seeking a Patient Services Representative to welcome patients, assist with check-in, and explain copayments and financial obligations. You will collect payments at the point of service and update patient demographics and insurance coverage during checkout.

Responsibilities include scheduling follow-up appointments, connecting patients to financial advocacy resources, guiding navigation of the MyUPMC portal, and ensuring a smooth, compliant care experience across UPMC facilities.

Qualifications

• Completion of high school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Two years of experience in medical/billing/customer service preferred.
• Experience with personal computer-based applications and typing skills preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
• Prior experience with Medipac, Epic, or other health records systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide a warm greeting for all patients.
• Guide patients through self-arrival technology or check-in at desk.
• Collect copayments and other payments at point of service.
• Confirm and update patient registration information at checkout.
• Schedule follow-up appointments within the practice at checkout.
• Connect patients to resources to schedule ancillary services.
• Help patients navigate the healthcare system with clear instructions.
• Follow up on unresolved questions to ensure continuity of care.
• Promote patient portal and assist registration where applicable.
• Verify insurance benefits with carrier via online or phone systems.
