Job summary

Ochsner Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide individualized medical care to patients in person, electronically, and by telephone under supervision. You will support the patient and provider, ensure readiness for visits, and maintain accurate documentation while upholding the highest standards of patient service.

The role requires a High School Diploma/GED, and completion of a formal medical assistant training program, plus Medical Assistant Certification and BLS.

Qualifications

• Clinical knowledge relevant to patient care and documentation.
• Proficient with computers, software, and web-based applications.
• Effective verbal and written communication with patients and teams.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service abilities.

Responsibilities

• Support patient and provider throughout visits.
• Prepare patient and provider for visits.
• Answer patient questions before departure and prep room for next appointment.
• Provide excellent patient service via phone and in person.
• Complete patient registration and electronic documentation as needed.
• Maintain clinical knowledge, skills, and credentials via ongoing development.
• Comply with DOT drug and alcohol testing if in occupational health.
• Adapt communication to patient population and privacy considerations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Ensure compliance with policies and standards.
