Job summary

Ochsner Health System is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide individualized patient care in person, by phone, and electronically under supervision. You will support patients and providers, prepare for visits, document accurately, and maintain confidentiality across diverse patient populations.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, preferred formal medical assistant training, and current Basic Life Support certification.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
• Preferred: formal medical assistant training program.
• Experience with confidential information in fast-paced environment.
• Certifications: Medical Assistant Certification; BLS from the American Heart Association.
• Knowledge and abilities: clinical knowledge; proficient with computers, software, and web-based applications; strong communication and customer service.

Responsibilities

• Supports patient and provider throughout the patient visit.
• Ensures patient and provider are prepared for the visit.
• Answers patient questions prior to leaving; prepares room for next appointment.
• Provides excellent patient service via phone and in person.
• Completes patient registration documentation as necessary.
• Maintains clinical knowledge and credentials through ongoing professional development.
• Complies with Department of Transportation Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Programs where applicable.
