Job summary

IU Health in New York is seeking a motivated Unit Clerk/Patient Care Assistant to provide a blend of direct patient care and unit support under a Clinical Nurse’s direction.

The role includes ensuring a clean environment, assisting the care team, with responsibilities spanning scheduling tests, managing records, and aiding physicians, patients, families, and vendors. CPR and PCA training are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Requires previous comparable acute patient care experience or completion of IU Health PCA education program.
• Current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of infection control principles and patient care procedures.
• Basic computer literacy and skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under the direction of a Clinical Nurse.
• Support the patient care team and maintain a clean, orderly environment.
• Provide information, directions and assistance to physicians, patients, families, customers and vendors.
• Schedule tests and procedures; maintain patient records; sign patients in and out of the unit.
• May assist with ordering, receiving and delivering equipment and supplies for the patient care team.
• May provide continuous observation including suicide prevention.
