Job summary

IU Health in Indiana is seeking a Unit Secretary/Nurse Aide role that combines direct patient care with essential clerical duties within the patient care team.

You will assist with scheduling, record-keeping, and ensuring a clean, safe environment for patients, families and staff. CPR/BLS and unit secretary training may be required, along with basic computer skills and infection-control knowledge.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CPR may be required to complete Unit Secretary training.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the AHA or completion of IU Health PCA program.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
• Knowledge of infection control principles.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care and unit clerical duties under the direction of a Clinical Nurse.
• Keeps the patient care environment clean and orderly.
• Schedules tests and procedures, maintains patient records, and signs patients in and out of the unit.
• Provides information, directions and assistance to physicians, patients, families, customers and vendors.
• May be responsible for ordering, receiving and delivering equipment and supplies for the patient care team.
• May provide continuous observation including suicide prevention.
