Job summary

IU Health is seeking a unit clerk/PCA to provide direct patient care and clerical support within the department. You will assist clinicians, maintain patient records, sign patients in and out, and help schedule tests while ensuring a clean, safe environment.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED, basic computer skills, and may need CPR/BLS certification. Prior acute care experience or completion of the IU Health PCA program is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• CPR may be required to complete Unit Secretary training program.
• Requires previous comparable acute patient care experience or successful completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
• Requires current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or attainment at the completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
• Requires basic knowledge of medical terminology.
• Requires knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
• Requires knowledge of principles of infection control.
• Requires basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care and unit clerical duties for the department.
• Administers care to designated patients under the direction of a Clinical Nurse.
• Provides support to the patient care team.
• Keeps the patient environment clean and orderly.
• Provides information, directions and assistance to physicians, patients, families, customers and vendors.
• May schedule tests and procedures for the patient.
• Maintains patient records and signs patients in and out of the unit.
• May coordinate ordering, receiving and delivering equipment and supplies for the patient care team.
• May provide continuous observation including suicide prevention.
