Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking a unit secretary to provide a mix of direct patient care support and clerical duties in the department. You will assist physicians, patients and family, manage patient flow, and help maintain a clean, orderly environment.

Responsibilities include scheduling tests, maintaining records, signing patients in and out, and coordinating supply movement; effective communication and basic computer skills are required.

Qualifications

• CPR is preferred; may require completion of Unit Secretary training.
• Basic Life Support certification may be required.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of infection control principles.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care support and unit clerical duties under a Clinical Nurse.
• Assist physicians, patients, families, and vendors with information and directions.
• Schedule tests and procedures and maintain patient records.
• Sign patients in and out of the unit and coordinate equipment and supplies.
• Possibly provide continuous observation including suicide prevention.
