Job summary

Carle Health is seeking a Health Care Technician (HCT) to support licensed nursing staff in delivering personal care and hygiene for assigned patients. The HCT will communicate with departments, visitors, patients and staff, acting as a liaison for the unit, under the supervision of the nursing manager.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, BLS within 30 days, CNA credential (or coursework completed within 24 months), and prior CNA experience within the last 24 months.

Qualifications

• H.S. Diploma or GED required.
• BLS certification within 30 days of hiring.
• CNA certification required or in progress with CNA coursework completed within 24 months.
• Successful completion of Carle's HCT In Training Program.
• Relevant medical military training may be considered.
• At least one semester of nursing clinical experience.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential is required.

Responsibilities

• Assists with maintenance of unit supplies (stocking nurse servers, cleaning instruments, ordering supplies, making up charts).
• Collects data on assigned patients as directed by RN and ensures accurate documentation.
• Demonstrates competency in selected psychomotor skills (vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, intake/output).
• Assists patients with activities of daily living.
• Prepares patients for transportation and/or transportation.
• Empty and record output from surgically placed drains.
• Care and maintenance of ostomies.
• Assists with patient mobility under RN guidance.
• Removes sutures and staples from surgical incisions.
• Completes post-operative collection of vital signs.
