Job description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Supports FMCNA’s mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy. Adheres to the FMCNA Compliance Program, including all regulatory and FMS policy requirements.

Functions as part of the hemodialysis healthcare team, providing safe and effective dialysis therapy under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in compliance with FMCNA policies, procedures, regulations, and training. Responsible for setting up and operating hemodialysis machines, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and supporting quality improvement initiatives to meet FMCNA’s quality goals.

DUTIES / ACTIVITIES:
CUSTOMER SERVICE:
  • Drive FMS culture through values and customer service standards.
  • Provide outstanding service to all customers, internal and external.
  • Develop effective relationships through communication.
  • Respond promptly to customer service issues.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
PATIENT CARE:
  • Assist in patient education on adequacy measures and disease processes.
  • Welcome patients, monitor well-being, and report concerns.
  • Evaluate vascular access and report findings.
  • Obtain vital signs, weights, and perform access evaluations.
  • Assist with cannulation and report difficulties.
  • Administer Heparin as delegated.
  • Initiate and evaluate dialysis treatments, monitor responses, and document.
  • Discontinue treatment following procedures, evaluate patient status, and document.
  • Ensure safety alarms are active, record treatment data, and report changes.
  • Maintain vascular access and perform lab specimen collection.
MAINTENANCE/TECHNICAL:
  • Maintain a safe, clean environment.
  • Disinfect equipment and prepare for treatments.
  • Perform alarm testing and system setup.
  • Handle spills and manage supplies efficiently.
CLERICAL & ADMINISTRATIVE:
  • Participate in CQI activities.
  • Accurately enter treatment data.
  • Review and complete treatment documentation.
  • Prepare patient charts and lab requisitions.
  • Handle lab specimen collection and courier coordination.
OTHER:
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL FOR HOME PROGRAMS (NOT HOME ASSIST):
  • Support home visit activities, patient education, and supply management as directed by RN.
  • Assist with home dialysis setup, specimen collection, and patient communication.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Includes lifting, standing, bending, and exposure to infectious materials. Travel between facilities and community locations is required. Reasonable accommodations are available for disabilities.

EDUCATION:
  • High School diploma or G.E.D., with required certification within specified timelines.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
  • Preferred prior healthcare experience; training provided.
  • CPR certification required upon employment.
