Job description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Supports FMCNA’s mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy. Adheres to the FMCNA Compliance Program, including all regulatory and FMS policy requirements.

Functions as part of the hemodialysis healthcare team, providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with FMCNA policies, procedures, and regulations. Responsible for setting up and operating hemodialysis machines, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and supporting quality improvement activities.

DUTIES / ACTIVITIES:
CUSTOMER SERVICE:
  • Drive the FMS culture through values and customer service standards.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to all external and internal customers.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships through communication.
  • Respond promptly to customer service issues.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
PATIENT CARE:
  • Assist healthcare team with patient education on adequacy measures and disease process.
  • Welcome patients, assess their well-being, and report concerns.
  • Evaluate vascular access and report findings.
  • Record vital signs, weight, and other relevant data.
  • Perform vascular access evaluation and cannulation, report difficulties.
  • Administer Heparin as delegated.
  • Initiate and monitor dialysis treatment, evaluate patient response, and document findings.
  • Discontinue dialysis following procedures, assess patient before and after treatment, and document.
  • Ensure safety alarms are enabled and respond to abnormal readings.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens as required.
MAINTENANCE/TECHNICAL:
  • Maintain a safe, clean environment and disinfect equipment.
  • Prepare dialysis machines and perform alarm testing.
  • Clean spills and organize supplies efficiently.
CLERICAL & ADMINISTRATIVE:
  • Participate in CQI activities and document treatment data accurately.
  • Review and complete treatment documentation.
  • Prepare patient charts and lab requisitions.
OTHER:
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
ADDENDUM FOR HOME PROGRAMS:

Assist the HT RN with home visit duties, patient education, supply management, and equipment setup, as directed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Includes lifting, standing, and working in healthcare environment with exposure to infectious materials. Reasonable accommodations available.

EDUCATION:
  • High School diploma or G.E.D., with certification as required by state or CMS.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
  • Preferred previous patient care experience; training provided for new hires.
