RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) at Jersey City Medical Center in the Nursing Float Pool. The role focuses on supporting RNs with hands-on patient care, including vital signs and personal care, in a fast-paced hospital setting.

The position requires a High School Diploma/GED and a current BLS certification. CNA certificate or nursing assistant experience is preferred. Night shift, 11:00 PM–7:00 AM, with every other weekend and some holidays.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; CNA certificate preferred.
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification required.
• Previous nursing assistant experience or clinical experience from an accredited nursing program preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with daily living activities and provide nursing care including vital signs, ECGs, phlebotomy, bedside care (bathing, mouth care, skin care).
• Monitor vital signs: BP, pulse, respiration, temperature; track patient health status.
• Document patient information accurately in EHRs with strict confidentiality.
• Apply infection control protocols to ensure patient/staff safety.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families and healthcare providers to coordinate care plans.

As a Patient Care Technician (PCT), you will be a vital part of our collaborative nursing team, supporting Registered Nurses in providing hands-on care and helping create a safe, welcoming environment for patients. You'll assist with daily needs such as vital signs, mobility, and personal care, while helping RNs monitor conditions and carry out care plans. Your attention, empathy, and teamwork help restore comfort and dignity for every patient you serve and make our mission to improve lives a reality each day.

• Assisting patients with activities of daily living and providing nursing care to patients including taking vital signs, EKGS, performing phlebotomy, assisting with bedside care, i.e. bathing, mouth care, skin care.
• Monitor vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature to track patient health status
• Document patient information accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems while maintaining strict confidentiality
• Implement infection control protocols to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff, adhering to facility policies
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers to coordinate care plans and address concerns
• Support emergency response efforts by applying Basic Life Support (BLS) skills such as CPR when needed in acute situations
• Providing patient care, based on physical, education, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients
• Providing for effective and safe patient outcomes through practice, judgment and critical actions
• Ongoing communication with patients and nursing colleagues regarding status of patient’s care
• Participating in collaboration of our patient's plan of care from admission to discharge to ensure safe transitioning

To be considered for this PCT opportunity, you must have a High School Diploma / GED and a current American Heart Association BLS certification. This position offers a Full-Time Night schedule 11:00PM-7:00AM and includes every other weekend as well as some holidays.
