Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for Jersey City Medical Center’s Emergency Department. You will assist Registered Nurses with daily patient care tasks, monitor patients, document in the EHR, and help maintain a safe and compassionate environment for patients and families.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, BLS certification, and CNA experience or certificate preferred. Part-time day shifts with every other weekend and some holidays are included.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
• Previous nursing assistant experience or CNA certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living and provide nursing care including taking vital signs, ECGs, phlebotomy, bed side care.
• Monitor vital signs and report changes to the RN.
• Document patient information accurately in the EHR while maintaining confidentiality.
• Follow infection control protocols to ensure a safe care environment.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers to coordinate care plans.
• Support RNs and care team to implement and evaluate care plans for patients in the ED.

You'll assist with daily needs such as vital signs, mobility, and personal care, while helping RNs monitor conditions and carry out care plans. As a Patient Care Technician (PCT), a typical day may include:

• Assisting patients with activities of daily living and providing nursing care to patients including taking vital signs, EKGS, performing phlebotomy, assisting with bedside care, i.e. bathing, mouth care, skin care.
• Monitor vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature to track patient health status
• Document patient information accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems while maintaining strict confidentiality
• Implement infection control protocols to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff, adhering to facility policies
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers to coordinate care plans and address concerns
• Support emergency response efforts by applying Basic Life Support (BLS) skills such as CPR when needed in acute situations
• Providing patient care, based on physical, education, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients
• Providing for effective and safe patient outcomes through practice, judgment and critical actions
• Ongoing communication with patients and nursing colleagues regarding status of patient’s care
• Participating in collaboration of our patient's plan of care from admission to discharge to ensure safe transitioning

To be considered for this PCT opportunity, you must have a High School Diploma / GED and a current American Heart Association BLS certification. Previous nursing assistant experience or clinical experience from an accredited nursing program is preferred or a CNA certificate. This position offers a Part-Time Day schedule 7:00AM-3:00PM and includes every other weekend as well as some holidays.
