Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is hiring a Patient Care Technician I in the United States. Under the direction of licensed clinicians, you will perform a variety of patient care activities and receive workplace education to assist the healthcare team.

The position emphasizes communication with RNs, safety, vital signs, and basic procedures, with a focus on compassionate patient support. A high school diploma and BLS within 30 days are required; prior experience is not mandatory.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read, write and communicate in English in a clear and concise manner.
• Basic computer skills.
• Basic Medical Terminology knowledge.
• Must be able to remain calm when under stress or in emergency situations.

Responsibilities

• Provides clear, timely communication to the RN regarding observations and changes seen in patients.
• Monitors high-risk patients as assigned by the Resource Nurse or designee.
• Maintains a safe environment and assists in de-escalation; participates in restraints as directed.
• Assists patients with daily living activities such as hygiene, ambulation, meals and nourishment.
• Assists in moving, lifting, positioning and transporting patients using safe techniques.
• Performs patient safety checks and uses fall-prevention strategies as directed.
• Takes and records vital signs and measures patient height and weight.
• Performs EKGs, POC tests, bladder scanning; collects and labels specimens for lab transport.
• Performs phlebotomy in specified locations.
• Assists with unit-specific procedures and equipment handling; prepares supplies as needed.
• Assists RN/LIP with treatments by preparing patient and equipment; supports patient positioning and comfort.
