Job summary

UMass Memorial Health seeks a Patient Care Technician I to support nursing staff in a fast-paced hospital setting. Under the supervision of licensed clinicians, you will assist with daily living activities, vital signs, specimen collection, and safety checks to maintain a high standard of patient care.

Responsibilities include effective communication with RNs, observation of high-risk patients, and collaboration with the healthcare team to ensure patient comfort and safety.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days as a condition of employment.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English clearly.
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Provide clear, timely communication to the RN regarding patient observations.
• Maintain constant observation of high-risk patients as assigned.
• Assist patients with daily living activities and mobility.
• Help position, move, and transport patients using safe body mechanics.
• Perform patient safety checks and utilize fall-prevention measures as directed.
• Record vital signs and measurements and assist with specimens as needed.
