Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician I to join the nursing team in Worcester. Under licensed clinician direction, you will perform a variety of patient care activities, including monitoring vital signs, assisting with daily living activities, and supporting procedures and treatments.

The role requires basic life support, English communication, and comfort in a fast-paced hospital setting. Training will occur to meet unit standards and safety protocols.

Qualifications

• High school education or GED required.
• Basic Life Support certification within 30 days as a condition of employment.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English clearly.
• Basic computer skills and medical terminology knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Provide clear, timely communication to the RN regarding observations and changes in patients.
• Maintain constant observation of high‑risk patients as assigned.
• Assist with daily living activities: hygiene, ambulation, meals and nourishment.
• Move, lift, position, and transport patients using proper safety techniques.
• Perform patient safety checks and fall prevention measures; follow restraint policies when needed.
• Take and record vital signs and measure patient weights/heights.
• Perform EKGs, point-of-care tests, and bladder scanning; collect and prepare specimens for lab transport.
• Assist with treatments and procedures, prepare equipment, and provide emotional support.
• Observe intake/output and manage tube feeding as directed.
• Maintain respectful, culturally appropriate communication with patients, staff, and visitors.
• Replenish supplies and equipment; seek assistance when needed.
• Keep up with hospital/unit changes via notices and emails.
