Job summary

Allegheny Health Network seeks a patient care contributor to support direct patient care and non-direct unit coordination. The role involves basic nursing procedures for stable patients and assisting RNs with acutely ill patients, with emphasis on hygiene, privacy and medical asepsis.

The incumbent will document care in the EMR, respond to emergencies, and participate in daily unit operations including admissions, discharges and transfers.

Qualifications

• Minimum High School Diploma or GED.
• Must be able to attend 2 weeks of training.
• Ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to perform basic mathematics.
• Basic computer skills.
• Preferred acute care experience within last 3 years.
• Currently enrolled in ASN or BSN program; preference for those in nursing programs with at least one clinical rotation.
• CPR – American Heart Association required.

Responsibilities

• Provides, obtains or performs and documents direct patient care and activities (ADLs, vital signs, I&O, ambulation, meal intake).
• Participates in quality and patient satisfaction initiatives (bedside shift report, hourly rounding, falls prevention, hand washing, isolation protocols).
• Accurately documents vital signs, weights, I&O, restraints, specimen collection, and treatments; reports changes to nursing staff.
• Performs unit activities such as supply stocking and equipment cleaning; supports admissions, discharges and transfers.
