Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Technician for Medical-Surgical, part-time days, to work under the supervision of an RN and perform basic patient care activities. Responsibilities include monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucose, assisting with daily living activities, and communicating changes to nursing staff.

Qualified candidates will have a High School Diploma or equivalent, CNA/CMA/EMT or nursing student with clinical experience, and BLS certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• CNA/CMA/EMT or nursing student with one semester of clinical completed required.
• American Heart Association BLS required.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic nursing care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming and eating.
• Reports abnormal findings to nursing staff.
• Keeps patient rooms clean and orderly.
• Demonstrates flexibility and multi-tasking under stressful conditions.
• Prioritizes unit work in coordination with the RN/charge/manager.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent

Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or nursing school students with one semester of clinical completed

American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)

Graduate of an accredited Nursing Assistant program or Graduate of Phlebotomy course
