Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Technician for a Medical-Surgical unit on a part-time days schedule. Under the supervision of an RN, you will perform basic patient care activities, monitor vitals, assist with activities of daily living, and help maintain unit workflow.

This role requires a High School Diploma or equivalent, and certification such as CNA, CMA, EMT, or nursing student with one semester completed, plus BLS certification.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• CNA, CMA, EMT, or nursing student with one semester completed.
• American Heart Association BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic nursing care activities as delegated by an RN, including vital signs and glucose monitoring.
• Assists patients with daily living activities such as bathing, grooming and eating.
• Reports abnormal findings or changes to nursing staff.
• Keeps patient rooms clean and orderly.
• Demonstrates flexibility and multi-tasking under stress.
• Prioritizes tasks to support unit workflow and patient care needs.
• Acts as liaison between patient care units and other departments.
• Answers calls and communicates information to staff, family, or patient.
• Manages unit workflow with charge RN or assistant manager as needed.
• Performs pre-census and validates admission/discharge lists as needed.

Education
