Job summary

Mercy Hospital Southeast in Cape Girardeau, MO seeks a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to assist in patient care under RN/LPN supervision. The role supports a collaborative care team with 12‑hour shifts and flexible part-time options (12 or 24 hours/week).

A comprehensive UAP training pathway is provided during orientation. Education requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, with BLS certification due within one month and PCT competencies within 3 months.

Qualifications

• No experience required; 175-hour training program provided for PCA pathway.
• Preferred EMT, Paramedic, or prior patient care experience (PCA/CNA), or active nursing student.
• Education: High school diploma, GED, CNA/CPCT or enrollment in a healthcare program; age 18+.
• Certifications: BLS within 1 month; PCT competencies within 3 months.
• Physical: lift 50 pounds; prolonged standing/walking; bending and kneeling as needed.

Job description

Patient Care Technician-PCT*

Under the direction of the RN or LPN, assists in the individualized care of the patient to achieve the patient's highest level of wellness. Works cooperatively with others as part of a team; recognizes the importance of group goals. Performs designated clinical procedures and non-clinical support tasks essential to providing care to the patient.

UAP Career Ladder positions include Patient Care Associate-PCA, Patient Care Technician-PCT, and Nurse Technician-NT

Position Details

• Location: Mercy Hospital Southeast, Cape Girardeau, MO
• Department: Clinical Decision Unit (CDU)
• Status: Part-Time (Choose 12 hours/week or 24 hours/week)
• Shift: 12 Hour Shifts (Days 6:30a-7:00p or Nights 6:30p-7:00a)

Qualifications:

• Experience: None required. If no previous experience, will be considered for PCA role in which Mercy will provide a required 175-hour training program that meets the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services requirements. The program will be completed as part of the new hire orientation process and must be completed within 90 days of hire to remain in the PCA position per state guidelines.
• Preferred Experience: EMT, Paramedic or previous patient care experience (i.e. PCA, CNA, or active nursing student).
• Required Education: High school diploma, G.E.D., CNA/CPCT or enrolled in a healthcare career program through their high school curriculum or age 18 and able to participate in Mercy's UAP training program and/or a current co-worker of Mercy.
• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required within one month of hire, completion of PCT competencies within 3 months of hire.
• Preferred Certifications: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Unlicensed Assistant (AUA) in the state of practice, Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT).
• Other: Minimum Physical Requirements: Position requires individuals to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• Position requires prolonged standing and walking each shift.
• Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
