Job summary

Mercy Hospital Southeast in Cape Girardeau, MO seeks a Part-Time Patient Care Technician (PCT) to assist in patient care under RN/LPN supervision. Shifts are 12-hour days or nights; laddered roles may apply. A Mercy training path includes a 175-hour program and a 1-month BLS timeline.

Minimal experience is needed; preferred candidates include EMTs or those with PCA/CNA background. Benefits and team-based care are highlighted in this role.

Qualifications

• Experience: None required; may be considered for PCA role with Mercy's 175-hour training during orientation.
• Preferred Experience: EMT, Paramedic or prior patient care (PCA/CNA) or nursing student.
• Required Education: High school diploma, GED, CNA/CPCT or enrolled in healthcare program; 18+ and Mercy co-worker may qualify.
• Certifications: BLS required within 1 month; PCT competencies within 3 months.
• Preferred Certifications: CNA, EMT, AUA, CPCT.

Patient Care Technician-PCT*

Location: Mercy Hospital Southeast, Cape Girardeau, MO

Department: Clinical Decision Unit (CDU)

Status: Part-Time (Choose 12 hours/week or 24 hours/week)

Shift: 12 Hour Shifts (Days 6:30a-7:00p or Nights 6:30p-7:00a)

Qualifications

• Experience: None required. If no previous experience, will be considered for PCA role in which Mercy will provide a required 175-hour training program that meets the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services requirements. The program will be completed as part of the new hire orientation process and must be completed within 90 days of hire to remain in the PCA position per state guidelines.
• Preferred Experience: EMT, Paramedic or previous patient care experience (i.e. PCA, CNA, or active nursing student).
• Required Education: High school diploma, G.E.D., CNA/CPCT or enrolled in a healthcare career program through their high school curriculum or age 18 and able to participate in Mercy's UAP training program and/or a current co-worker of Mercy.
• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required within one month of hire, completion of PCT competencies within 3 months of hire.
• Preferred Certifications: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Unlicensed Assistant (AUA) in the state of practice, Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT).
• Other: Minimum Physical Requirements:
• Position requires individuals to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• Position requires prolonged standing and walking each shift.
• Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
