Job summary

Mercy Hospital Southeast in Cape Girardeau, MO seeks a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to assist under the RN or LPN in individualized patient care, and to perform clinical procedures and supportive tasks as part of a cohesive team.

This part-time role offers 12-hour day or night shifts in the CDU, with a structured orientation including a 175-hour PCA training for those new to Mercy, plus opportunities for career ladder advancement.

Qualifications

• No prior experience required; 175-hour training program provided within 90 days of hire for PCA role.
• Preferred EMT, Paramedic or prior patient care experience (PCA, CNA, or nursing student).
• Required education: High school diploma, GED, CNA/CPCT or enrolled in healthcare career program; age 18+ and Mercy UAP training participation.
• Certifications: BLS required within one month of hire; PCT competencies within 3 months of hire.
• Preferred certifications: CNA, EMT, AUA, CPCT.
• Other: Physical requirements include lifting 50 pounds, prolonged standing and walking, and bending/kneeling/stretching as needed.

Patient Care Technician-PCT*

Location: Mercy Hospital Southeast, Cape Girardeau, MO

Department: Clinical Decision Unit (CDU)

Status: Part-Time (Choose 12 hours/week or 24 hours/week)

This job profile/title may be updated along UAP Career ladder to offer candidate most appropriate role per their individual experience level if additional qualifications are met. UAP Career Ladder positions include Patient Care Associate-PCA, Patient Care Technician-PCT, and Nurse Technician-NT

Shift: 12 Hour Shifts (Days 6:30a-7:00p or Nights 6:30p-7:00a)

Qualifications

• Experience: None required. If no previous experience, will be considered for PCA role in which Mercy will provide a required 175-hour training program that meets the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services requirements. The program will be completed as part of the new hire orientation process and must be completed within 90 days of hire to remain in the PCA position per state guidelines.
• Preferred Experience: EMT, Paramedic or previous patient care experience (i.e. PCA, CNA, or active nursing student).
• Required Education: High school diploma, G.E.D., CNA/CPCT or enrolled in a healthcare career program through their high school curriculum or age 18 and able to participate in Mercy's UAP training program and/or a current co-worker of Mercy.
• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required within one month of hire, completion of PCT competencies within 3 months of hire.
• Preferred Certifications: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Unlicensed Assistant (AUA) in the state of practice, Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT).
• Other: Minimum Physical Requirements:
  • Position requires individuals to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Position requires prolonged standing and walking each shift.
  • Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
