Job summary

Mercy Hospital Southeast in Cape Girardeau, MO seeks a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to assist in individualized patient care under the supervision of RNs and LPNs. The role supports the CDU unit with clinical procedures and non-clinical tasks as part of a collaborative healthcare team.

We offer a 12-hour day shift schedule (6:30a–7:00p) and a structured pathway through UAP roles, including PCA and CPCT, with required BLS and competency milestones during the first months of employment.

Qualifications

• No prior experience required; PCA path includes 175-hour training during new hire orientation within 90 days.
• Preferred EMT, Paramedic, or prior patient care experience (PCA, CNA, or nursing student).
• BLS certification within one month of hire; PCT competencies within 3 months of hire.
• Minimum physical requirements: ability to push/pull/lift 50 pounds; prolonged standing and walking; bend, kneel, twist, and squat.

Responsibilities

• Assist in individualized patient care under RN/LPN direction to support wellness goals.
• Collaborate with the care team to provide efficient patient services.
• Perform designated clinical procedures and non-clinical support tasks essential to patient care.
• Participate in Mercy's UAP training program during onboarding and orientation.

• Department: Clinical Decision Unit (CDU)
• Status: Full-Time, 36 hours/week
• Shift: 12 Hour Days (6:30a - 7:00p)

*Will consider candidate experience once in offer stage. This job profile/title may be updated along UAP Career ladder to offer candidate most appropriate role per their individual experience level if additional qualifications are met. UAP Career Ladder positions include Patient Care Associate-PCA, Patient Care Technician-PCT, and Nurse Technician-NT

Qualifications:

• Experience: None required. If no previous experience, will be considered for PCA role in which Mercy will provide a required 175-hour training program that meets the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services requirements. The program will be completed as part of the new hire orientation process and must be completed within 90 days of hire to remain in the PCA position per state guidelines.
• Preferred Experience: EMT, Paramedic or previous patient care experience (i.e. PCA, CNA, or active nursing student).
• Required Education: High school diploma, G.E.D., CNA/CPCT or enrolled in a healthcare career program through their high school curriculum or age 18 and able to participate in Mercy's UAP training program and/or a current co-worker of Mercy.
• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required within one month of hire, completion of PCT competencies within 3 months of hire.
• Preferred Certifications: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Unlicensed Assistant (AUA) in the state of practice, Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT).
• Other: Minimum Physical Requirements: Position requires individuals to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis. Position requires prolonged standing and walking each shift. Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
