Magee - Women's Hospital of UPMC is hiring a Full Time Patient Care Technician to support their Resource Center.

Rotating weekend and holiday availability may be required to support the hours of operation.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide patient care including assisting with procedures and activities of daily living, and supporting physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies. Report patient status changes to the RN.
  • Perform core nursing assistant responsibilities (blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections, Foley care) and at least four additional tasks such as phlebotomy, EKG, dressing, Foley removal, point of care testing, bladder scan, or IV removal.
  • Report equipment malfunctions, communicate effectively with departments, establish respectful relationships, and contribute to unit activities like responding to call lights, passing meals, and transporting patients.
  • Receive feedback constructively, identify learning needs, and participate in self-review. Communicate clearly with the healthcare team, understand cultural diversity, and support safety in the workplace.
  • Adhere to all policies regarding patient care and hospital information, and support departmental changes and quality initiatives.
  • Document accurately in medical records and perform clerical tasks as needed.
  • Perform standard patient care duties including ADLs, point of care testing, and other competencies as required.
  • Report equipment issues, communicate effectively, and maintain professional relationships.
  • Provide patient and family instruction under RN supervision, and apply/remove patient restraints per protocol.
  • Ensure safety policies are followed, and support department projects and quality initiatives.
  • Complete all assigned work timely and effectively, and perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Achieve and maintain competency in advanced skills like phlebotomy, IV removal, EKG, and NG tube management based on departmental needs.

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, and one of the following: 1 year healthcare experience, 6 months as UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with competency, enrollment in a healthcare program with clinical rotation, or a health sciences bachelor's degree.

Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician training, basic information system training, and CPR certification within 30 days of hire are required. EMT or Paramedic certification is preferred. Access to medications is limited to distribution to the nurse.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • CPR certification per AHA standards within 30 days of hire.
  • Additional certifications such as BLS, Act 31, Act 33, Act 34, and FBI clearance are required or preferred.
