Job summary

UMass Memorial Health in New London, CT is seeking a Patient Care Technician II (PCT II) to join our care team. Under supervision of a registered nurse, you will assist with daily living activities, monitor vitals, perform basic tests, and support procedures to ensure patient comfort and safety.

The ideal candidate is a flexible team player available to work evenings and weekends as part of our extended hours schedule; a signing bonus may be available according to recruitment criteria.

Qualifications

• Under the direction of the appropriate licensed clinician, provides patient care to meet the personal needs and comfort of patients; and assists members of the healthcare team.

Responsibilities

• Provides clear, timely communication to the RN regarding observations and changes seen in patients.
• Provides constant observation of high-risk patients as assigned by the Resource Nurse or designee.
• Participates in the development and maintenance of a safe environment; uses interventions to de-escalate patients; assists with restraints as directed.
• Assists patient with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, ambulating, meals and nourishment.
• Assists in moving, lifting, positioning and transporting patients using proper safety techniques.
• Maintains patient safety by performing checks and following Restraint Policy when caring for restrained patients.
• Takes and records vital signs; measures height and weight.
• Performs EKGs, Point of Care tests and bladder scanning; collects and labels specimens.
• Phlebotomy in certain locations.
• Assists with treatments and procedures by preparing patient and equipment; supports positioning and emotional needs.
• Observes and documents intake; supports ostomy care as directed.
• Demonstrates sensitivity to patients’ needs and communicates respectfully with patients and families.
• Replenishes patient and unit supplies; seeks assistance when needed.
• Keeps current with hospital changes; reads emails regularly.
• Has the ability to precept new Patient Care Technicians.
