Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Tech Float to support patient care across units. The role follows NM’s mission and ethics, performing basic nursing tasks under RN supervision and ensuring accurate vital signs, ADLs, and care coordination while maintaining unit efficiency and patient comfort.

Preferred candidates include those with phlebotomy experience or CNA/CMA/EMT backgrounds and completion of an accredited nursing assistant or phlebotomy program.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Nursing students who completed one clinical rotation, or CNA/CMA/EMT certification.
• CPR/BLS certification required.
• Phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Graduate of an accredited Nursing Assistant program or Phlebotomy course preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic nursing care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output.
• Assists patients with personal care and activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming and eating.
• Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
• Keeps patient rooms clean and orderly.
• Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and multi-tasking; works under stressful situations.
• Uses critical thinking to prioritize and complete unit work as needs change.
• Acts as liaison between patient care units and other departments.
• Answers telephone, intercom and call lights politely and communicates with staff/family/patients.
• Manages overall unit workflow with the charge RN and/or assistant manager as needed.
• Performs pre-census and validates daily admission, discharge and census lists as needed.
