Job summary

MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center is hiring a Patient Care Tech to support clinical staff with direct patient care on a 12-hour day shift. Located in Des Moines, IA, the role focuses on patient safety, comfort, and routine tasks under RN/LPN supervision.

You will assist with activities of daily living, monitor vital signs, collect specimens, respond to calls, operate equipment, and help with admissions and transfers. Requirements include basic life support completion within six weeks.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years of age.
• Completed Mandatory Reporter training within 3 months of hire.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 6 weeks of hire.

Responsibilities

• Delivers assigned patient care and treatment as delegated by an RN or LPN.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living and personal hygiene.
• Responds to patient calls and ensures safety and comfort through rounds and safe handling.
• Calculates intake and output and measures vital signs; performs bedside glucose testing.
• Initiates or assists with emergency measures (CPR) and post-mortem care when needed.
• Sets up equipment and supplies for procedures; prepares patients and rooms for procedures and transfers.
