Job summary

Meadville Medical Center is seeking a dedicated unit support assistant with clerical experience to aid nursing staff across shifts. You will perform patient care tasks, assist with admissions, and help maintain Meditech records.

A focus on patient safety and accurate data entry is essential to ensure smooth unit operations. You will work in a patient-care environment, handling routine rounds, documentation, and coordination with ancillary departments to ensure timely patient services.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent within one year of hire.
• EMT, CNA or MA preferred.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills.
• Experience in data entry or typing.
• Previous clerical experience preferred.
• Legible handwriting.
• Ability to work with infant to geriatric patients.
• Fluent knowledge of medical terminology.
• Current BLS Healthcare Provider card.

Responsibilities

• Assist nursing staff with daily routines and unit functions.
• Conduct hourly rounds; report observations and changes.
• Perform clerical duties: bed status updates, rental bed management, work orders, notify physicians.
• Provide clerical direction to new staff and students/volunteers.
• Coordinate scheduling of patient activities and procedures.
• Prepare and update patient records; obtain records per policy.
• Operate Meditech EHR to input patient information.
• Assist in admissions; collect patient data accurately.
• Focus on patient safety; reduce falls and restraints.
• Obtain vitals, weight/height, intake/output, specimens, glucose, EKGs; document appropriately.
• Address patient comfort and pain management; support family satisfaction.
• Maintain unit and nursing station supplies; restock as needed.
• Follow standards of nursing care and charge procedures.
• Screen patients, visitors, employees upon entry.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
