Job summary

Penn Medicine seeks a dedicated Certified Nursing Assistant to support patient care on a 46-bed medical-surgical unit. Under RN supervision, you will assist with daily living activities, participate in handoffs, and help ensure a safe, compassionate environment for adults with diverse conditions.

The role emphasizes active listening, cultural sensitivity, and collaboration with nurses and therapists to provide high-quality care and improve the patient experience.

Qualifications

• Certified Nurse Aid (Required).
• CNA Certification by the State of Pennsylvania or RN without a BSN Degree.
• BLS from the American Heart Association.
• HS Diploma/GED (Required).
• Or matriculated in an accredited BSN Nursing Program with GPA requirements.
• Phlebotomy experience (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates genuine care for the patient, active listening, and culturally sensitive care.
• Active participation in daily RN/CNA handoffs and unit huddles.
• Communicate with patients to ascertain feelings or need for assistance.
• Answer patient call signals, lights, bells, or intercom systems to determine needs.
• Provide physical support for daily living activities while preserving dignity.
• Timely notification and escalation of data or clinical information.
• Gather information from caregivers, nurses, or physicians about patient condition and plans.
• Collect and record vital signs as directed by staff.
• Document observations of patient behavior or symptoms to nurses.
• Demonstrates flexibility based on patient acuity and unit needs.
• Demonstrate safe patient handling skills and proper hand hygiene.
• Support quality and safety measures within the work environment.
• Contribute to a positive, caring, and healing patient environment.
• Keep focus on improving the patient experience.
