Job summary

Trinity Health Ann Arbor is hiring a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to join the 7 East Cardiac PCU. Under RN direction, the PCT delivers direct patient care, including ADLs, specimen collection, and IV catheter handling, in a 32-bed unit with an average patient age of 64.

Shifts include day and night, with every other weekend/holiday required for full-time and part-time staff. High school diploma or GED plus relevant direct care coursework or experience are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least one year of direct care experience or completion of CENA/PCT/MA/EMT course.
• Nursing fundamentals completed for student BSN candidates.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with ADLs such as bathing, showering, toileting, positioning and feeding.
• Collect specimens and manage peripheral IV procedures as needed.
• Document patient information accurately to meet requirements.
• Provide care for cardiac, medical-surgical patients, and those requiring monitoring.
• Support age-appropriate, developmentally sensitive patient care and safety.
• Support on a 32-bed unit with patient average age around 64.

Position Purpose

The PCT, under the direction of a registered nurse, is responsible for direct patient care considering age specific, developmental, cultural and spiritual needs. They assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe and conducive to patient/family wellbeing including concepts of relationship-based care.

Shift and Status

Shifts Available: Day /Night including every other weekend and holiday.

Day Shift 6:30 am - 3:00 pm / Night Shift 10:30 pm - 7:00 am

Status Available: Full-time, Part-time

Every Other Weekend and Holiday per year required for Full-time and Part-time team members.

Required Education / Licensure

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum of one year of previous direct care experience (acute or long term) or successful completion of CENA, PCT, MA, or EMT course.
• Student nurses must have completed their nursing fundamentals class of a BSN program.

What you will do

• Training is provided to prepare our colleagues for success.
• The PCT assists patient in completing ADLs including: Bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation using assistive devices and with feeding and menu selection.
• A PCT will collects and send specimens including blood and blood cultures and inserts and removes peripheral IV catheters. They are responsible to record patient information and required data in appropriate areas in order to meet documentation requirements.
• Provide services to older adolescent, adult, and older adult cardiac patients, acute and chronic Heart Failure patients, as well as medical surgical patients who require cardiac monitoring.
• Patients on the unit require close and frequent assessment and skillful and timely clinical interventions in order to achieve their treatment goals.
• 32-bed unit and the average patient age is 64.
