Job summary

Encompass Medical Group in Kansas City, MO is seeking a full-time Referral Coordinator for our Wornall office. The role focuses on organizing daily workflow to maintain efficient patient flow and interacting professionally with physicians, receptionists, and ancillary services.

Qualifications

• High School education or equivalent.
• Experience as a receptionist or in customer service.
• Experience in a medical office setting preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Follow up on any specialty/provider which has not sent summaries/reports to office within the identified standard.
• Ensure complete and accurate registration, including patient demographics and current insurance information.
• Assemble information concerning patients clinical background and referral needs.
• Contact insurance companies and organisations to ensure prior approval requirements are met.
• Present necessary medical information history, diagnosis and prognosis.
• Provide specific medical information to financial services to maximise reimbursement to companies/organisations and physicians.
• Review details and expectations regarding referral with patients.
• Assist patients in problem solving potential issues related to health care system, financial or social barriers.
• Point of contact for patients with questions and concerns.
• Advocate on patient’s behalf with carrier to ensure approval of necessary supplies/services.
• Identify and utilise cultural and community resources.
• Establish and maintain relationships with service provider.
• Ensure referrals are addressed in a timely fashion.
• Remind patients of scheduled appointments via phone, voice mail, or mail.
• Update primary care chart with information on consults, hospitalisations, ER visits, and related events.
• Coordinate care with outside consultants.
• Cardiac life support certification preferred but not required.
• Provide assistance in other areas as assigned by the Clinical Coordinator and/or Medical Office Manager.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
