Job summary

Children’s Minnesota in Saint Paul, MN is seeking a Patient Care Manager in the Surgery department. The PCM will ensure services are child- and family-focused, clinically appropriate, and operationally efficient to achieve strong patient outcomes.

The role directly manages RN staff and assists in leadership of clinical support staff. Requirements include an active RN license in Minnesota, current BLS, a BSN, and 3+ years of leadership experience; OR experience is a plus.

Department Overview

The Surgery department provides surgical services to treat multiple issues from dental/oral to urologic conditions on an inpatient and outpatient basis. The department also offers a pre‑surgery program for patients, their siblings, and their parents, including a hospital tour and discussion on how the family can prepare for the upcoming hospital visit.

Position Summary

The patient care manager (PCM) is responsible for ensuring that services and programs in their assigned department/unit are child‑ and family‑focused, clinically appropriate, operationally efficient, and achieve effective patient outcomes. The PCM directly manages RN staff and assists in leadership of clinical support staff.

License / Certification / Registration
  • Active RN on the Minnesota Board of Nursing required
  • Current BLS required
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing required
Experience
  • 3+ years of people leadership experience, or an advanced degree in nursing leadership in lieu of experience.
  • Informal leadership experience preferred (charge RN, clinical educator, preceptor, etc.). Previous OR experience strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Fundamental understanding of the business side of the assigned department/unit (P&L, finance, budget, etc.).
  • Availability for on‑call and off‑hours rotations/situations as decided by the department/unit.
  • Strategic thinker, collaborative, seeks to understand, embraces continuous improvement, navigates change, calm demeanor, positive attitude.

Compensation and Benefits

The posted salary represents a market‑competitive range based on salary survey benchmark data for similar roles locally or nationally. Annual salaries displayed are based on full‑time employment (40 standard hours per week). Part‑time salaries are prorated relative to the full‑time standard. Pay rates consider market indicators, skills, education, credentials, experience, internal equity, and organizational needs.

In addition to your salary, this position may be eligible for medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other fringe benefits. Positions that require night, weekend, or on‑call work may be eligible for shift differentials or premium pay.
