Job summary

Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital is seeking a full-time Med Surg coordinator for IU 3 North Orthopedics. The role requires 36 hours per week with a day shift 6:30 am to 7:00 pm, weekends and holidays rotation.

Education must be a high school graduate or GED/HSED; no prior experience required and benefits are eligible. Responsibilities include coordinating tests and treatments, handling communications, EMR usage, and ensuring accurate patient records while maintaining strong customer relations and

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED/HSED required.
• No experience required.
• Basic computer skills expected.
• Excellent oral and written communications.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to adapt to interruptions and changing priorities/workloads.
• High level of attention to detail required.
• Team members must maintain annual hospital-based certifications.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate tests and treatments between departments for patients on nursing units.
• Facilitate communications to support patient care incl. multi-line phone, paging, and hospital information systems.
• Maintain EMR and other computer systems for ordering and charges.
• Prepare chart forms for admissions, transfers, discharges, and expirations; handle records for transfers to other facilities.
• Verify completeness of medical records and patient demographics in the system.
• Maintain positive customer relations and a harmonious work environment; respond to requests promptly.
• Provide age-appropriate care knowledge and assess data to meet patient needs per policies.
