Job summary

Mercy Hospital Southeast in Cape Girardeau, MO is seeking a Part-Time Patient Care Associate (PCA) for the Oncology department. You will assist under the supervision of an RN or LPN to support individualized patient care and contribute to the care team's goals.

No prior experience is required; Mercy provides a 175-hour training program and onboarding to meet state requirements. Shifts are 12 hours (6:30a–7:00p), 16 hours per week, with career ladder opportunities to PCA, PCT, or Nurse Technician

Qualifications

• No prior experience required; Mercy will provide a 175-hour training program within 90 days of hire.
• Preferred experience: EMT, Paramedic or previous patient care experience (PCA, CNA or active nursing student).
• Education: High school diploma, G.E.D, CNA/CPTC, or enrolled in a healthcare career program; or current Mercy coworker.
• Certifications: BLS required within one month of hire; PCA competencies within 3 months.
• Preferred certifications: CNA, EMT, AUA, CPCT.
• Physical requirements: lifting up to 50 pounds; prolonged standing and walking; bending, reaching and kneeling.

Qualifications

• Experience: None required. If no previous experience, will be considered for PCA role in which Mercy will provide a required 175-hour training program that meets the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services requirements. The program will be completed as part of the new hire orientation process and must be completed within 90 days of hire to remain in the PCA position per state guidelines.
• Preferred Experience: EMT, Paramedic or previous patient care experience (i.e. PCA, CNA, or active nursing student).
• Education: High school diploma, G.E.D, CNA/CPTC. or enrolled in a healthcare career program through their high school curriculum or age 18 and able to participate in Mercy's UAP training program, and/or a current co-worker of Mercy.
• Certifications: BLS Required within one month of hire, completion of PCA competencies within 3 months of hire.
• Preferred Certifications: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Unlicensed Assistant (AUA) in the state of practice, Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT).
• Other: Minimum Physical Requirements:
  • Position requires individuals to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Position requires prolonged standing and walking each shift.
  • Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
