Job summary

Mercy is seeking a Patient Care Associate (PCA) in the Oncology department at Mercy Hospital Southeast in Cape Girardeau, MO. The position is part-time, 16 hours per week, with a 12-hour day shift on a rotation basis from 6:30 a.m.

to 7:00 p.m. The PCA will assist in individualized patient care under supervision and perform clinical and non-clinical tasks essential to caregiving.

Qualifications

• No experience required; Mercy provides a 175-hour training during new hire orientation and must be completed within 90 days.
• Preferred experience: EMT, Paramedic, or previous patient care experience (PCA, CNA, or nursing student).
• Education: High School diploma, GED, CNA/CPTC, or enrolled in a healthcare career program and/or 18+ to participate in Mercy's UAP training.
• Certifications: BLS required within one month of hire, PCA competencies within 3 months of hire.
• Preferred certifications: CNA, EMT, AUA, CPCT.
• Physical requirements: push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds; prolonged standing and walking; grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat.

Status: Part-Time, 16 hours/week

Shift: 12 Hour Days (6:30a - 7:00p)

This job profile/title may be updated along UAP Career ladder to offer candidate most appropriate role per their individual experience level if additional qualifications are met. UAP Career Ladder positions include Patient Care Associate-PCA, Patient Care Technician-PCT, and Nurse Technician-NT

Qualifications:

• Experience: None required. If no previous experience, will be considered for PCA role in which Mercy will provide a required 175-hour training program that meets the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services requirements. The program will be completed as part of the new hire orientation process and must be completed within 90 days of hire to remain in the PCA position per state guidelines.
• Preferred Experience: EMT, Paramedic or previous patient care experience (i.e. PCA, CNA, or active nursing student).
• Education: High school diploma, G.E.D, CNA/CPTC. or enrolled in a healthcare career program through their high school curriculum or age 18 and able to participate in Mercy's UAP training program, and/or a current co-worker of Mercy.
• Certifications: BLS Required within one month of hire, completion of PCA competencies within 3 months of hire.
• Preferred Certifications: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Unlicensed Assistant (AUA) in the state of practice, Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT).
• Other:Minimum Physical Requirements:
  • Position requires individuals to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Position requires prolonged standing and walking each shift.
  • Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
