Mercy Hospital Southeast in Cape Girardeau, MO is seeking a Part-Time Patient Care Associate (PCA) to assist in individualized patient care under the direction of an RN or LPN. This 16 hours/week, 12-hour day shift role emphasizes teamwork and hands-on support across oncology services.

Patient Care Associate-PCA* Location: Mercy Hospital Southeast, Cape Girardeau, MO Department: Oncology Status: Part-Time, 16 hours/week Shift: 12 Hour Days (6:30a - 7:00p) *Will consider candidate experience once in offer stage. This job profile/title may be updated along UAP Career ladder to offer candidate most appropriate role per their individual experience level if additional qualifications are met. UAP Career Ladder positions include Patient Care Associate-PCA, Patient Care Technician-PCT, and Nurse Technician-NT
Experience: None required. If no previous experience, will be considered for PCA role in which Mercy will provide a required 175-hour training program that meets the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services requirements. The program will be completed as part of the new hire orientation process and must be completed within 90 days of hire to remain in the PCA position per state guidelines.
Preferred Experience: EMT, Paramedic or previous patient care experience (i.e. PCA, CNA, or active nursing student).
Education: High school diploma, G.E.D, CNA/CPTC. or enrolled in a healthcare career program through their high school curriculum or age 18 and able to participate in Mercy's UAP training program, and/or a current co-worker of Mercy.
Certifications: BLS Required within one month of hire, completion of PCA competencies within 3 months of hire. Preferred Certifications: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Unlicensed Assistant (AUA) in the state of practice, Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT).
Other: Minimum Physical Requirements: Position requires individuals to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis. Position requires prolonged standing and walking each shift. Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.

Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 195 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who was determined to help women and children in Dublin experiencing poverty. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill that dream. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, one of the first religious orders whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes. In 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to the United States. In 1856, they traveled to St. Louis. In the years to come, they would establish hospitals throughout the Midwest. Many of these would join together in 1986 as Mercy.
