Job summary

Mercy Hospital Southeast in Cape Girardeau, MO is seeking a Patient Care Associate to assist under the supervision of the RN or LPN, supporting individualized patient care and teamwork in the Cardiac Progressive Care unit.

The role is full-time, 36 hours per week with 12-hour night shifts (6:30 pm–7:00 am). A high school diploma or GED is required; BLS certification preferred within one month of hire. Mercy provides training during orientation to meet state guidelines.

Department: Cardiac Progressive Care

Status: Full-Time, 36 hours/week

Shift: 12 Hour Nights (6:30pm - 7:00am)

This job profile/title may be updated along UAP Career ladder to offer candidate most appropriate role per their individual experience level if additional qualifications are met. UAP Career Ladder positions include Patient Care Associate-PCA, Patient Care Technician-PCT, and Nurse Technician-NT

Qualifications:

• Experience: None required. If no previous experience, will be considered for PCA role in which Mercy will provide a required 175-hour training program that meets the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services requirements. The program will be completed as part of the new hire orientation process and must be completed within 90 days of hire to remain in the PCA position per state guidelines.
• Preferred Experience: EMT, Paramedic or previous patient care experience (i.e. PCA, CNA, or active nursing student).
• Required Education: High school diploma, G.E.D
• Preferred Education: CNA/CPTC. or enrolled in a healthcare career program through their high school curriculum, and/or a current co-worker of Mercy.
• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or successful completion of course required within one month of hire. Completion of PCA competencies within 3 months of hire.
• Preferred Certifications: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Unlicensed Assistant (AUA) in the state of practice, Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT).
• Other: Minimum Physical Requirements:
  • Position requires individuals to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Position requires prolonged standing and walking each shift.
  • Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
