Job summary

UCI Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician to assist direct patient care providers with safe handling across the Medical Center, including lifting, positioning, transferring and transporting patients.

The role promotes safe patient handling, provides direct patient care and educates health care teams in lift techniques and transfer equipment. It also tracks, delivers, cleans, and performs basic repair of equipment and supplies; occasional dispatch duties may apply.

Qualifications

• Understanding of basic medical terminology.
• Must be able to work variable shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Must be able to read, write and speak effectively in English.
• Minimum six months experience in a healthcare environment or training in a healthcare/emergency/rescue field.
• Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively in a therapeutic way.
• Current BLS certification upon hire (must be issued by the AHA).
• Ability to float between Orange and Irvine campuses.

Responsibilities

• Assist direct patient care providers with safe patient handling, including lifting, positioning, transferring, and transporting patients.
• Provide direct patient care and education for health care providers in lift techniques and transfer equipment.
• Track, deliver, clean, and perform basic repair of equipment and supplies.
• May be occasionally responsible for dispatch duties.
