Haywood Regional Medical Center in Clyde, NC, seeks a Patient Care Assistant for the PCU/Telemetry unit. This PRN position involves assisting with patient care, monitoring vital signs, and supporting nursing staff in a 22-bed unit with a 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio.

Applicants should have a high school diploma and obtain Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire; NC CNAI registration within 6 months is preferred with CNA or EMT licensure advantageous.

Qualifications

• Basic Life Support certification required within 30 days of hire.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Registered in NC as a CNAI within 6 months of completing training.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic patient care as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs and recording intake/output.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living (bathing, grooming, eating, toileting, ambulation).
• Observes and promptly reports abnormal findings to nursing staff.
• Keeps patient rooms and common areas clean, safe, and stocked.
• Manages the tech desk; supports nursing/physician staff and throughput.
• Documents care and activities per unit standards.
• Participates in performance improvement and required education; performs other duties as assigned.

More About Our Team

Join our team in a 22-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU)/Telemetry unit with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5. We are staffed with RNs, CNAs, Telemetry Techs, and unit secretaries, providing specialized care for patients primarily diagnosed with respiratory failure and cardiac conditions. This role offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, utilizing advanced cardiac monitoring technology to deliver high-quality patient care and ensure optimal outcomes for our diverse patient population.

How You'll Contribute

• Performs basic patient care as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, possible blood glucose measurements, and accurate intake/output recording.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living (bathing, grooming, eating, toileting, ambulation).
• Observes and promptly reports abnormal physical, mental, or emotional findings to nursing staff.
• Keeps patient rooms and common areas clean, safe, and appropriately stocked.
• Manages the tech desk; supports nursing/physician staff and department throughput.
• Documents care and activities per unit standards.
• Participates in performance improvement and required education; performs other duties as assigned.
