Overview

Under the direction of the nurse leader, provides assistance with clerical, non-clinical tasks. These include ensuring clinical areas are well-supplied, stocked, and maintained in a clean, ready state. The role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced, detailed environment with an emphasis on teamwork and prioritization. The individual may have access to drug products and secure medication areas (excluding controlled substances) to manage storage, handling, and disposal according to policy.

Responsibilities
  • Act as the front-line representative of the patient care area.
  • Ensure the patient care area is well supplied by ordering, restocking, and monitoring supplies for outdates.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment, including cleaning equipment, patient/clinic rooms, and hallways.
  • Perform low-level disinfection and adhere to infection prevention principles.
  • Conduct quality checks of point-of-care testing machines.
  • Check emergency stations daily and record medication refrigerator temperatures if applicable.
  • Escort patients within the building, assisting with wheelchairs as needed.
  • Answer phone calls and support department functions.
  • Prepare patient forms with demographic data.
  • Deliver specimens to the lab and run errands for other departments.
  • Participate in regulatory readiness activities and employ safety standards such as SBAR and huddle attendance.
  • Convey medications following the Medication Storage and Handling policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Additional responsibilities for outpatient settings include greeting patients, preparing rooms and equipment, assisting with questionnaires, and maintaining accurate chart information.
  • For inpatient settings, participate in admission/discharge processes, assist with patient readiness, and perform hourly rounding, among other tasks.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma (or GED) preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strong organizational and customer service skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality care.
Required Licensure/Certifications
  • BLS certification within 30 days.
