The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) provides basic direct patient care as delegated by clinical professionals, maintaining an orderly, clean, and safe environment for patients and visitors.

Responsibilities

• Patient Population (Clinical): Engage in population-appropriate communication, understand growth and development milestones, involve family in care, identify physical and psychological needs, perform treatments, administer medication, operate equipment, and recognize signs of abuse or neglect.

• Patient Care: Provide culturally and age-specific care, measure vital signs, assist with activities of daily living, perform specimen collection, provide hygiene and comfort, monitor and record patient data, and assist with mobility and feeding.

• Communication: Report observations, orient patients and visitors, document treatments, respond to nurse call system, and handle reception duties.

• Environment: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment, report issues, and stock materials.

• Teamwork: Participate in patient admission, transfer, discharge, and demonstrate cooperation and respect within the team.

• Safety Measures: Ensure call lights are accessible, apply safety devices, use proper body mechanics, and follow universal precautions.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required. STNA registry required for State Tested Nursing Assistant; specific requirements for Daniel Drake Center. Minimum 0-6 months of experience needed; 1-2 years preferred.
