The Patient Care Assistant provides basic direct patient care as delegated by clinical professionals, in accordance with laws and current education. Maintains an orderly, clean, and safe environment for patients and visitors.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• STNA registry required for State Tested Nursing Assistant. STNA required for Daniel Drake Center.
• Minimum 0-6 months of experience required; preferred 1-2 years of equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Patient Population (Clinical Only): Engage in population-appropriate communication, give clear instructions, involve family/guardians, identify physical limitations, respond to behavioral health issues, interpret data, and recognize signs of abuse or neglect.

• Patient Care: Measure vital signs, record observations, assist with ADLs, hygiene, positioning, transfers, and ambulation. Provide comfort measures, perform treatments, and operate equipment safely. May perform EKGs, phlebotomy, and blood glucose testing.

• Communication: Report observations, orient patients and visitors, document treatments, respond to nurse call system, and manage reception duties.

• Environment: Maintain a clean, safe environment, restock materials, and report maintenance issues.

• Teamwork: Participate in admissions, transfers, discharges, and demonstrate cooperation and respect.

• Safety Measures: Ensure call lights are within reach, apply identification bands, use side rails and restraints per policy, and practice proper body mechanics and precautions.
