Job summary

St. John Medical Center in Westlake is seeking a Patient Care Nursing Assistant (PCNA) to support RN-driven patient care across shifts, with orientation provided.

Roles may include day or night schedules depending on openings, and units may vary (ED, 3 North/3 South, Step Down, MICU, Ortho, Central Nursing Administration). The PCNA performs ADLs, monitors vital signs, records data, ensures patient safety, and assists with unit operations and documentation.

Qualifications

• The PCNA completes patient care activities and provides clerical support as delegated by the RN. PCNAs perform duties including, but not limited to: ADLs, vital signs, I&O, 12-lead ECG, bladder scan, hygiene, and venipuncture (where applicable). Familiarity with using: Wheelchair, EKG equipment, patient assistive devices, and patient care equipment specific to assigned population. Assists with patient data collection and reporting. Maintains the patient record (in written and/or electronic format). Facilitates communication and efficient unit operations. Orients newly hired PCNAs.
• Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain PHI for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic patient care tasks as delegated by the RN and assists, under the direction of the RN, in the implementation of the established plan of care.
• Compassionate in all interactions with patients, families, and peers.
• Follows established evidence-based prevention guidelines to promote positive patient outcomes. (15%)
• Provides a safe environment in patient rooms and on unit.
• Facilitates stocking and ordering of supplies for patient care.
• Assists with unit communication.
• Acts as a key resource for onboarding and training new team members.
