Job summary

Allina Health is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator to support coordination of care and handle clerical duties in a hospital setting. The role includes patient admissions, transfers, discharges, and registration, with communication to nursing staff and the multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities also cover processing physician orders, managing charts, and assisting with patient flow and front desk duties. A Health Unit Coordinator program and familiarity with medical terminology are preferred.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age with education and/or experience to meet required competencies.
• 2+ years of experience in a medical office or hospital setting preferred if not certified as a Health Unit Coordinator.

Responsibilities

• Assists with coordination of care with nursing staff, providers and multidisciplinary team.
• Performs clerical duties including patient admissions, transfers, discharge and registration.
• Communicates patient care needs to nursing staff and handles patient requests for assistance.
• Processes physician orders accurately and timely.
• Maintains accurate patient billing charges and accommodation codes.
• Performs filing, mail and email distributions, copies, scanning and faxing per unit protocol.
• Facilitates information exchange to appropriate personnel or outside agency.
• Enters patient and caregiver information into the Electronic Medical Record system.
• May order, validate and store supplies and patient education materials.
• Rooms patients and schedules procedures/appointments as needed.
• Supports front desk presence for patient and family support and check-in.
