Job summary

Washington University in St. Louis is seeking a Billing & Insurance Support specialist to obtain information, counsel patients on financial assistance, and register new patients. You will explain billing processes, assist with referrals, and support scheduling and account maintenance.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required within one month of hire; BLS certification must be current.
• Work Experience: Billing systems, third-party claims, and/or medical office setting; customer service (3+ years).

Responsibilities

• Obtains insurance information from patients and counsels on financial assistance.
• Registers new patients and assists with form completion.
• Reviews schedule for new patients and updates as needed.
• Calls patients with appointment reminders and collects insurance information and referrals.
• Explains billing process to patients and handles inquiries from patients and payers.
• Assists staff with basic account maintenance and with scheduling duties.
• Handles patient questions regarding billing and insurance.
