Job summary

Blanchard Valley Health System in Findlay, OH is seeking a PFS Call Center Representative to serve as the hospital's primary contact for patient billing inquiries. You will liaise with patients, providers, and payers, explain billing statements, and support swift resolution of account balances with courteous customer service.

Responsibilities include following scripts, verifying insurance, negotiating payment plans, handling cashier duties as needed, and maintaining HIPAA compliance.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED equivalent.
• 2-3 years of experience in medical billing and collections, or satisfactory completion of internal billing/self-pay billing assessment.
• Certified Patient Financial Services Specialist certificate to be completed within 12 months of hire date.
• Knowledge and experience with Microsoft office products and Windows PC functionality.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with positive oriented interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Responds promptly to patient inquiries regarding hospital billing procedures, policies, and statements; handles inbound calls from patients and providers.
• Follows scripts to facilitate account resolution; uses resources to resolve inquiries during calls, reviews billing correspondence, and may interact in person.
• Conducts insurance verification to ensure accurate billing and patient balances.
• Negotiates full payment and helps set up payment plans; records all payment types in the system.
• Explains Explanation of Benefits (EOB) to patients; stays current on payer regulations.
• Performs cashier functions when needed; provides timely reporting and supports patient and staff satisfaction.
• Maintains productivity levels according to team standards.
• Complies with HIPAA and payer-specific policies; documents all activity accurately.
• Attends staff meetings and ongoing education; may work remote or onsite per policy.
• Assists in other duties as needed by supervisor or manager.
