Job summary

Winona Health is seeking a Patient Account Specialist in Winona, MN. This 1.0 FTE role supports billing inquiries, payments, and record maintenance within our Business Services team, with hours from 7:30 am to 5 pm on weekdays.

Telecommute is not available. The role combines customer service with collections tasks, including setting up payment plans, monitoring past-due accounts, and ensuring compliance with HIPAA and debt collection laws.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
• Strong communication skills both verbal and written, with the ability to handle difficult situations calmly and professionally.
• Strong problem-solving skills and detail-orientated with strong organizational skills.
• Ability to meet deadlines and performance targets.
• Advanced time-management and organizational skills to handle multiple priorities with shifting timeframes.
• Proficient use of Microsoft Teams, Word, Outlook, & Excel.
• Discretion and good judgement in responding to questions by patients, providers, and other professional personnel.
• Must possess effective customer service oriented communication skills.
• Professional and respectful attitude, maintaining confidentiality information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.

Responsibilities

• Handles patient inquiries via phone, email, patient portal, chat, and in-person.
• Provides accurate billing information, updates records, and processes payments.
• Collaborates with staff to resolve incorrect charges and insurance issues.
• Maintains patient confidentiality per HIPAA and data security rules.
• Meets performance targets related to collections and payments.
